Not really. I spent the last two days in adult education. That's the way of things in the 21st century, isn't it? In my case it was a two day class about Microsoft Excel. The days of hiring on with a big company and working there until retirement are over. We need to constantly update our skills.
My brain is so full of keyboard shortcuts and new data it hurts. We need new and updated skills every month or so. It's almost like we are fungible goods depending upon our skill set. No new skills — see you later.
I had that typical group in class for the last two days. They all work at a big agriculture business, and wanted to take over. They were led by a mother hen. This woman must have weighed 500 pounds and had her grey hair butch cut. She was one of those who laughed out loud at every word she spoke. Kind of like she was overconfident about her own value. It took a lot of effort for the presenter to keep the class on track. He was a pro; however, and kept us moving forward.
Adult education always goes that way. You either get the guy who wants to show off for the instructor, or someone who is disruptive to one degree or another. At my age, I'm used to it. The class was good, but I feel like my head is going to explode.
My wife told me to meet her at Old Chicago for dinner. She really gets me. They have their St. Patrick's day beer tour going on right now. Five beers later, and I earned another tee shirt. She had our daughter drop her off so she could drive me home. Microsoft Excel — who cares?
I have a great workbook to reference for all my Excel issues. I also got to rapidly unwind from the end of my work week.
I'm looking forward to some writing and self publishing time this weekend. I have another short story finished, and The Playground has to move forward to some degree. My novel will finish strong, and I can see the other side of the quagmire that middle ground always becomes.
My main goal is to move forward with publishing Will O' the Wisp. I expect to hit the publish button next weekend sometime. I also have to work up four critiques for my group this weekend. They have some good stories going on, so it ought to be fun. Our meeting is Thursday night.
The work week ends — the working weekend begins. What are your plans?
I love Microsoft Excel. If a day goes by and I don’t use it, I feel like something was missing from the day. It’s a great tool to help analyze all kinds of data and to make terrific graphs and charts and tables. Woo hoo.
If I ever can find the time, I might have to take an adult education class in Adobe Photoshop. I just can’t seem to grasp how to use that. Maybe it’s because I’m more left brained than right brained. Or is it more right brained than left brained? Wait, let me boot up Excel. I’m sure there’s a formula for that.

You need help. The proper antidote for Microsoft Excel, as Mr. Boyack has pointed out, is beer.

And plenty of it too. I’ll wait a week and check out my workbooks.

Hmm. Why didn’t I think of that?

My problem is that I have people for that. I only get to use Excel every nine months or so. It’s always good to learn new stuff, but my employees are way ahead of me.

I actually have legitimate reasons to use Excel for my job. The good news is that I enjoy using it. I am a data wonk — and a numbers wonk.

There really is always one person like that in a class. If a classmate says there isn’t then it’s probably them. The beer tour sounds really cool. Went to a beer festival once and had a blast.
Weekend is busy here. Saturday has some permanent morning errands for the next few months. Sunday is new author photo day. Necessary, but ugh. I hate having my picture taken.

This tour involves all Irish style beers. I fare better on this one than the ones where it’s all about the hops.
I’m with you on the photography. It’s something I probably ought to do too. It isn’t even on the business plan this year.

I should see if there’s anything like that around here. Although, my body seems to be turning against beer in general for some reason. It’s weird.
Website and photograph were the big parts of the business plan for me. Release the next 3 books too, but we’ll see what happens there. I stopped doing deadlines last year because something always went wrong.

Old Chicago Pizza is a franchise, and there might be one nearby. I have a slight reaction to hops, and fear my beer years are fading too. Better enjoy it while I can.

Never heard of that one. Think we have an UNO’s or something. I’m in New York, so Chicago-style pizza isn’t very common.

The funny party is that OC’s best pizza is thin crust.

What’s the definition of thin crust exactly? Some places have really thin and other people simply call NY Style that.

I don’t know. If it’s pizza I’m generally pretty happy. Thin, thick, double crust, it’s all good.

Same here, but I will admit that I’ve had some bad ones. There are a few birthday parties I’ve done to that had pizza and I could just smell it was ‘cheap’. One bite and you just have that feeling someone is laughing at you while they eat the real stuff.

My son is coming home to visit for more than a week, and I think my nephew will be here this afternoon. So I’ll be doing a lot more cooking this week, but with far more joy than usual 🙂

That’s cool. Cooking is funny in that it can be fun or a chore. Have a nice weekend.

I just posted about my CEUs that are overdue before I read this. At least I can do them online.

I could probably use an Excel class. I work mostly with graphics on my job so Excel is my weakness. I know just enough to get by. When it comes to CE I’m required to do 14 hours every two years to keep my real estate license active. I’ve had some great classes through the years, but then I’ve had some really dreadful ones, too. Right now I’ve got tech conference coming up in April (unrelated to CE) that I hope will be interesting and informative. I always look at that time as something different…a day out of the office. Capping it off with a nice dinner and a few drinks sounds like a good wrap! 🙂
