Welcome John Howell #NewBook

Let’s all welcome John Howell to the blog today. John is a fabulous author, one of my fellows over at Story Empire, and one of my first blogging friends. John has always been a big supporter of the indie community, including my work. Let’s make him feel welcome by using those sharing buttons. If you’ve even had your work featured here, John did it for you. Welcome John:

New Book Launch – Eternal Road – The final stop.

Thank you so much for having me on your blog, Craig, and thank you for helping me launch this book. You have a unique and fun storytelling style and I am grateful to be here. Speaking of the book, let me describe it. Eternal Road is the story of two people finding their way through the selection process leading to the place where one will spend eternity. Yes, it is true. They both have passed away. James Wainwright just died in an auto accident. Samantha Tourneau died seventeen years before. Sam is James’s guide to help him decide where to spend eternity. This is not your usual thriller or paranormal romance. It is a piece of fiction that is a combination of inspiration, adventure, time travel, sci-fi, a touch of erotica, and a dash of spiritual. In short, it is a lot of things, but hopefully, a story that will make you happy to have read it.

It is now available on Amazon in paper and Kindle. The Kindle edition is introductory priced at 99¢ until October 15th

The blurb

James Wainwright picks up a hitchhiker and discovers two things 1. The woman he picks up is his childhood sweetheart, only Seventeen years older. 2. He is no longer of this world.

James began a road trip alone in his 1956 Oldsmobile. He stops for a hitchhiker only to discover she is his childhood sweetheart, Sam, who disappeared seventeen years before. James learns from Sam falling asleep miles back caused him to perish in a one-car accident. He also comes to understand that Sam was taken and murdered all those years ago, and now she has come back to help him find his eternal home.

The pair visit a number of times and places and are witness to a number of historical events. The rules dictate that they do no harm to the time continuum. Trying to be careful, they inadvertently come to the attention of Lucifer, who would love to have their souls as his subjects. They also find a threat to human survival and desperately need to put in place the fix necessary to save humankind.

The question becomes, will James find his eternal home in grace or lose the battle with Satan for his immortal soul and the future of human life with it? If you like time-travel, adventure, mystery, justice, and the supernatural, this story is for you.

An Excerpt

James eases the 1956 Oldsmobile sedan to the shoulder and can’t help kicking up some dust in the process. The sign is facing him even as the person turns away to avoid the dust storm he has created. Kansas City in black marker on cardboard is all it says.

He opens the passenger door and waves her over. “I’m going to Kansas City. Want a ride?”

The young woman looks back at him, and he can tell she is doing an evaluation of the safety prospects of accepting a lift. She slowly hoists her backpack on to her shoulder and walks with hesitant steps toward the car. She puts her hand above her eyes to cut the glare of the sun and stops short of the door. She leans in. “Did you say you’re going to Kansas City?”

“Yes. Yes, I did. I also asked if you would like a ride.”

“That all depends on your intentions?”

“My intentions?”

“Yeah. You are offering a ride. How much will it cost me?”

“Cost you? I’m going to Kansas City. Your sign says Kansas City. Why would it cost you anything?”

“Just want to make sure is all.”

“No charge. I’ve been on the road forever, it seems, and I would welcome the company. My name is James.”

“Sorry, James. I know I sounded a little ungrateful, but I have also been on the road and have met several guys that think I owe them something for a ride.”

“I can understand that. Let’s just say you can ride or not. It’s your choice. No other decisions to be made.”

“Fair enough. I accept your offer. My name is Samantha.” She slides in and slams the door.

“Nice to meet you, Samantha. You want to put your backpack in the rear?”

“No, I’ll just keep it here in the front with me. You can never tell.”

“Tell what?”

Welcome to John Howell and his newest book

John Howell is a regular participant here. He’s regularly in the comments on my posts, and has sent characters to appear on Lisa Burton Radio twice. His new book “Our Justice” is on pre-sale until September 23rd. This is the third book in the John Cannon series, and I had the honor of being a beta reader on this one. It’s a great story, and readers are in for a treat.

I know from experience the early sales really help with Amazon’s algorithm, so reserve your copy today. There is still time to read the first two before Our Justice delivers. Let’s hand the time over to John.

Introducing the third book in the John J. Cannon Trilogy – Our Justice Our Justice Click to go to Amazon Blurb The terrorist leader and financier Matt Jacobs has figured out a way to eliminate the President. He is relying on John Cannon’s stature as a hero to help him carry it off. John finds himself walking the fine line of pretending to help Matt while trying to figure out a countermeasure to the plan. The action begins with John fearing for his life. Clearly, whoever is trying to get him has a mission to accomplish and the elimination of John is at the top of the to-do list. The quest to survive takes John and his love, Stephanie from the beaches of Port Aransas to West Virginia and finally to Matt Jacob’s corporate headquarters at the Embarcadero Center in San Francisco. There John finally understands what he needs to do to protect both he and Stephanie from further mayhem. The third book in the John J. Cannon Trilogy brings together two strong wills for a showdown. The question to be answered is who will feel the satisfaction that the achievement of justice delivers? John, Matt or neither? Our Justice is available on Amazon and KDP now in e-book format for preorder at $2.99 with shipments starting on September 23rd. The paper edition will be available on Amazon September 23rd at $14.99. Here is the link for pre-order of the e-book https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LDFM9WM?ref_=pe_2427780_160035660 Excerpt. I see out of the corner of my eye that Ned is on the phone. Hopefully, he’s calling in reinforcements since it looks like the SUV is gaining on us. Just as the rear window of the Focus blows inward, he finishes the call. Hundreds of pieces of glass hit Ned and me. Luckily, it’s shatterproof stuff, so we’re mostly okay cut wise. Ned crouches down and fires three quick shots with his 9MM. In the mirror, the SUV swerves to the left and almost explodes after it rams a parked car. “Stop,” Ned yells. I slam on the brakes, which nearly tosses Ned through the windshield. “For shit’s sake, I don’t have a seatbelt on, junior, so take it easy. Just stop and turn around.” John Howell Author BIO John’s main interests are reading and writing. He turned to writing as a full-time occupation after an extensive career in business. My GRL & His Revenge, on Lisa Burton Radio #RRBC

Don't touch that dial. You've found Lisa Burton Radio, the show where the characters bring the stories to life. I'm your host, Lisa the robot girl.

Today we have Ned Traines on the air with us. Ned is the Chief of Police in Port Aransas, Texas. “Welcome to the show, Ned.”

“Hello, Lisa. I'm a fan of yours, and it is an honor to be on your show. Also, that boss of yours is some writer. I can tell you his book The Playground had me reaching for my soothing syrup several times.”

“You're so sweet, Ned. Now, tell us how you came to be the Police Chief, and how you decided on such a beautiful area? I visited an author, John Howell there one time.”

“I started out in the military police where I was lucky enough to get my bachelor's and master's degrees. After discharge, I signed up for an interview at the FBI. There were a couple of hundred applicants and to my surprise I got the job. I spent twenty-five years as a agent doing all kinds of assignments. Most I can't discuss. Eventually, it came down to finding a place to retire but not retire if you know what I mean. Port Aransas was looking for a Chief of Police so I applied and have been there for the last five years. Not an exciting story I know, but that's how I came here. Oh yes, I know that John Howell guy. I try to stay out of his way and yes it is a beautiful area.”

“Do you wear a uniform, or are you plain clothes? What kind of firepower do you carry?”

“I usually wear what everyone wears. You know, fishing shirt, cap, and shorts. I have a light jacket on most of the time so my two 9mm automatic pistols don't scare anyone. They can look pretty nasty to tourists.”

“Those are pretty popular. Do you carry them equally, or is one a backup, like some carry in an ankle holster? I only have one, and we refer to it as the B.A.G., which means big assed gun. It's appropriate, because it's .50 caliber. I have to carry it in my purse.”

“I have to tell you I usually leave one at home except if I'm involved in some nasty business. Since some pretty weird people came to town, the business has definitely gotten nastier. I like your idea of a purse carry. It is pretty common for plainclothes female cops. I see it most in the big city. I'm impressed you have a .50. Takes a strong person to fire that thing. Of course, you look pretty strong.”

“John Cannon was a guest of mine on a previous show. He lives in Port Aransas. Do you know him?”

“Yeah, I know him. In fact, we have become pretty good friends. When I first met John it wasn't that way. He was found unconscious next to the body of a young woman who sold him his boat. What was particularly interesting he was lying on the gun that killed her. I figured John was the one who murdered her. Maybe a lover's spat. Of course,he had this fantastic story about some guys approaching him, but I thought he was lying. We found out he didn't do it and was a victim. It seems some terrorists wanted his boat, uh My GRL was the name, to create mayhem for America.”

“So you and John teamed up to battle a terrorist? This wouldn't be Matt Jacobs would it? He called in during John's interview, and he's creepy as hell.”

“Well, I can't come out and accuse Matt of anything I can't prove but let me say if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it is a duck. Anyway, we finally got to the bottom of who was who and arrested a bunch of people on suspicion of terrorism. Mr. Matt Jacobs was nowhere to be found. John and his friend Jason did stop the terrorists and for that the President wanted to give him a medal.”

“Now wait a minute. I know how busy a Police Chief gets. Tell us the truth, have you been reactivated with the FBI?”

“After it was announced that John was to receive the medal a whole bunch of crap…er…violence started happening. I was reactivated into the FBI with the sole responsibility of making sure John was safe. My orders came from the highest level, and I have to tell you it was not an easy assignment.”

“Do you have any idea what their next move is?”

“It is very clear to me that certain individuals, and I'm not saying who, have the idea to get John to help them. I know for a fact that they are hell bent on undermining the President and creating uncertainty in the oil market. I do want these people to know that they won't get away with their sinister plot, and they'll have to come through me if they intend to hurt John. That man is a hero and like a son to me so they had better take heed to my warning.”

“We have a caller today. Do you mind, Ned?”

“I just said something that I never told John. It's probably him. Put him on and I'll call him my son to his face.”

“Hello caller, you're on the air. Do you have a question for Ned?”

“Is this the Lisa show?”

“Yes, caller. Who are you, and what is your question?”

“This is Geneen Taines, Ned's wife. Can you pass a message to Ned?”

“You can tell him yourself. We're on the air right now.”

“Oh. No wonder he didn't answer his phone.”

“Geneen, you said you had a message for Ned.”

“Um, okay. Ned, a nice man called from Keewaydin Lane Books.”

“Okay, honey. What did he want?

“He said he wants to write a book about your exploits as an FBI agent.”

“Did he leave his name?”

“Yes, I wrote it down. It's John W. Howell.”

“Oh my gosh, Ned, that's the guy I interviewed when I flew down to Texas.”

“He's the guy behind all the mayhem with My GRL and now His Revenge.”

“He is, honey? Well I don't want you messing around with him. He almost did us all in on that so called John J. Cannon trilogy.”

“Okay Geneen. I'll call this guy after the show. Thanks.”

“What are you going to tell him?

“Can we talk about this after the show?”

“Oh yes, I understand.”

“Goodbye dear. I'll be home soon.”

“Oh, and can you pick up a loaf of bread on your way home?”

“Yes dear. Goodbye.”

“There you have it listners. It sounds like John Cannon is still in trouble. It also sounds like we may be teasing a Ned Traines book, maybe even a trilogy. What do you think, Ned.”

“I really don't have a ton of control. If this Howell guy decides to write a book, I can't do much to stop him. I sure will be on the lookout for a partner, though. You have any interest, Lisa?”

“For Lisa Burton Radio, I'm Lisa Burton. I'll post some links so you can check out the John J. Cannon trilogy for yourselves.”

Lisa Burton Radio with John Cannon #RRBC

Welcome to another edition of Lisa Burton Radio. I’m your host, Lisa the Robot Girl, and this is the show all about characters. I understand more than anyone, that characters make the stories complete. Where would our authors be without them?

Today’s sponsor is the John J. Cannon Trilogy by John W. Howell. The main character of these stories is John J. Cannon. He’s waiting on the line, so let’s welcome him to the show.

“Hi, John. Welcome to Lisa Burton Radio. It’s an honor to have a genuine hero on the show.”

“Hello Lisa. I am very pleased to be on your show. I have been seeing a number of your posters and I have to admit you are certainly getting around these days.”

“Well aren’t you sweet, thank you. You’re a litigation attorney, taking a leave of absence from your firm at the time of these stories. It doesn’t sound like a very fun vacation. Tell our fans a bit about what happened.”

“It was very strange Lisa. I took a leave of absence from my firm and bought a boat. I didn’t know at the time but the boat was targeted to be used by a terrorist group. My first inkling of a problem was when I woke up in the hospital and learned I was found unconscious next to the body of the woman who sold me the boat. From there I got involved with a nasty guy named Matt Jacobs. He was behind the whole thing and it just so happened I had made a very big enemy in Matt. He’s sworn revenge. I think I would say I was the right guy in the wrong place.

“What is it with authors and making sure everyone has an enemy? It’s like happy characters don’t make good books, or something. Why is Matt Jacobs so angry with you?”

“You know I have yet to understand authors. Mine took me from San Francisco and threw me into mayhem almost costing me my life and those I care about. Matt is angry at me for two reasons. The first is I humiliated him during a law suit between his company and my client. It cost him over a hundred million dollars in the settlement. He could care less about the money since he has billions, but I put him on the stand and made him look like a fool. The second reason is I stopped him from completing his vindictive strike against America. Matt Jacobs does not suffer fools lightly. He has since decided not to kill me but use me to meet his ends. In the book His Revenge he actually gives me a choice of helping him or watching thousands of innocent people die.”

“That’s terrible. It’s bad enough that Matt’s a terrorist, but to use you like that is just heinous. It must have tempered you in some way. Can you tell us about that?”

“Well I finally decided the authorities were going to have a difficult time getting evidence on Matt. It became my job to thwart his plans. You know Lisa I’m not one of those all powerful heroes who can fight their way out of difficult situations. I have to remain calm and look for points of leverage over Matt. I guess you could say I have to work smarter not harder. Matt has an entire organization dedicated to embarrassing America. He blames all of us for some perceived oppression of his Palestine homeland. I’ve been lucky to be able to use his arrogance against him. I can assure you I will not rest until I see Matt Jacobs behind bars to answer for his crimes. He’s been on a path of revenge and as one philosopher once said, “When you seek revenge dig two graves. One for the one from whom you seek revenge, and one for yourself.” I want to be there when Matt is finally brought to justice.”

“I’m honored to know you. It isn’t everyone who can stand in the line of fire like that, with no promise of survival. I’m sure our listeners have some questions for you. Let’s take a call.

“Hello, you’re on the air with Lisa and John. Do you have a question for John?”

“Yes, this is Matt Jacobs and before you go any further let me point out there is no proof I have had anything to do with these events that John Cannon has ill-advisedly accused me of planning and executing. Your guest is quite delusional and is making these accusations to further his desire to be an American hero. I want to let you both know you will be hearing from my attorney regarding these egregious accusations. You know quite well John Cannon I am a man of my word. I would like to hear what you have to say now.”

“Well, Matt. I have to say I’m very surprised an important man like yourself would take the time to listen to this interview let alone call in. I think there may be a tender spot here. Your threat of a lawyer is a good one. I would welcome the opportunity to get you and your lawyer into a courtroom. I know you would have no problem lying through your teeth, but I can assure you I have enough proof to make any charge of slander look ridiculous and raise enough questions about you that the civil suit could be the basis for a criminal charge. So why don’t you make my day and bring a suit. I would enjoy that very much. I’m really sorry Lisa that this man is rude enough to interrupt your show. I see he has hung up.”

“That was certainly uncomfortable. Don’t worry about me, I’m bullet resistant, and my author gave me a big assed gun. With computerized aiming, I’ve never missed before. Besides, if he wants to sue me, he’ll have to wait in line.

“Let’s try something lighter. How is your relationship with that girl? The one with the hole in her head. I think her name was Stephanie.”

“I like your description of the hole in her head and luckily I can smile about it now. Stephanie was targeted by Matt Jacobs during a trip we made to Washington to get a medal from the President. The idea was to take her out and demonstrate how serious he was about getting me to cooperate. Lucky for both of us the shooter was a little off and she was wounded but not fatally. Stephanie and I have to work through some issues as a result of Matt sending her some pictures of me with someone else. We weren’t in a committed relationship, but still I regret putting myself in a position that brought pain to Stephanie. I think we’ll be able to get beyond this evil act by Jacobs. At least I hope so.”

“John I wish you luck in your next adventure. Take care of yourself, and it’s been an honor having you on the show.

Don’t forget to check out all the links and important data on the website. Pick up the John J. Cannon Trilogy today.

Lisa the robot interviews John W. Howell

“Hey, Lisa. I need you to do something for me.”

“Sure thing, what’s up.”

“I’m really busy today, and I need you to interview an author for me.”

“Wait a minute. Personal assistant, robot girl, spokesmodel. That’s my entire job description. Where does it say conduct interviews?”

“Well – You’d be assisting me, so it’s part of the assistant job.”

“Fine. Who is it?”

“You remember John W. Howell don’t you.”

“He was at the block party, back in September.”

“Yeah, he’s a great guy.”

“He wore a lampshade and kept asking me to turn him on.”

“I think you’re reading too much into it. Ask him about his new book. People love you, all you have to do is talk and make notes.”

“Fine.”

ooooo00ooooo

I took the formerly haunted biplane to Port Aransas, Texas. I touched up my hair and makeup at the airport, and changed into my brown suit. A nice Uber driver took me to John Howell’s house.

It’s a lovely place with canals in the back yard. He made me feel at home, and I started my interview. I knew I could take him, if he got fresh.

I smiled, turned on my internal recorders, and started. “So, John, I read My GRL, and John Cannon lost his boat, and was lucky to get out alive. What is it about you authors and torturing us main characters?”

“First off Lisa I want you to know I have been looking forward to this interview since I found out you were going to do it. Second I have to admit we authors do like to make our characters a little uncomfortable. It is the only way we can demonstrate to the reader what fine people they are. Take the case you mentioned. John Cannon wanted to become a charter boat captain and did not know the boat he bought was going to be used to blow up the Annapolis Midshipmen. Well when all was said and done John became a hero and unfortunately the bad guy Matt Jacobs got away. If John wasn’t challenged he would still be in his San Fransico law firm and unknown to all of us.”

“If Matt Jacobs is still around, is it safe for John these days?”

“That is a very interesting observation Lisa. In the latest book His Revenge we find out John is indeed in trouble. The President of the US wants to give him a medal for heroism in the MY GRL affair. While in Washington to accept the medal John is kidnapped by Matt Jacobs’ thugs. Matt hates John and the western world with a passion. He goes so far as to make John an offer he has a hard time refusing. Since John is now a national celebrity he gives John the choice of using his celebrity status to help with the next terrorist plot or be responsible for the death of thousands of innocents including Stephanie Savard his current relationship.”

“So John is a celebrity these days. It happened to me too, quite frankly. In this case, is it safe for him to make public appearances and handle the celebrity status?”

“John is the most well known person in the US. He has been the subject of the news since it became known the President wanted to recognize him. He saved thousands of lives and America is greatful. Unfortunately Jacobs’ people have tried to assinate John several times. He is now accompanied by heavly armed body guards.”

“Okay, so John has to choose between being Matt Jacobs’ stooge, or watching thousands of innocent people die. This includes his new love interest too. I swear, you authors are monsters. John is a lawyer using a leave of absence. Can’t he use the law to finally get to Matt Jacobs?”

“Unfortunately John is in no position to communicate with any legal authorities. He has been taken to a remote facility in Equador where Matt has arranged a radio broadcast designed to embarrass the President. He also wants John to fabricate information that will call into question the US role in the manipulation of word wide oil prices. The reason Matt hates John so much is John won a lawsuit years before against Matt Jacobs’ company which embarrassed Matt. Matt is undercover using his power and money to back the terrorists. John not only thwarted Matt’s first mission but unknowingly almost exposed this duplicate personality.”

“Craig wrote me a big assed gun. Maybe you should write one of those for John. I get that he’s just a normal guy, but he might need a little bit of help. Know what I’m sayin’?”

“I would love to do that but I would be afraid John would shoot himself in the foot. He is not your usual hero so I would be afraid of what he might do to himself. I have really enjoyed talking to you and hope we can do this again.”

“Oh no you don’t. I flew all the way down here, and have a few more questions. I’m a robot girl, and I like technology. Do you use a Mac or a PC? Do you make notes on a voice recorder? Can you program the microwave?”

“Ha ha ha. Let me take these one at a time. I use both a Mac and PC. Let me explain. I got a new Mac Pro for Christmas and am in the process of making the transition. I need to get MS Office installed and until I do I need to keep using the PC for my writing. I use the Mac for everything but my books. Once I install the Office suite I can go 100% Mac. I make notes on my iPhone. I also have college ruled notebooks for character and plot line notes. I can program a microwave.”

“Do you outline, or write by the seat of your pants?”

“The first thing I do is write the last three lines of the book. Once I have these last three lines I go back to the beginning and write by the seat of my pants. I enjoy letting the characters develop the story. I exercise editorial control over them to keep the story focused on those last three lines. I have found this method allows me to enjoy the story as I go along because as you can probably attest characters take on a life of their own.”

“Craig likes a cup of coffee, and silence when he writes. I can’t even turn on my hair dryer when he writes. Do you have any preferences when you write?”

“I like to write with music playing. I used to plug CDs into my computer and then write. I like music enough that the speakers on my computer left me a little dissatisfied. I went to a Bluetooth speaker and run music out of IHeart Radio. I find I can create nice mixes this way and I never have to change the CD. I try to write a thousand words a day before I turn to anything else. I used to do my personal and household stuff in the morning and then write in the afternoon. Well, I found that if I commit to a thousand words before I do anything else it works better. Now after three years my family knows I have to do the thousand before anything else. I don’t mind noise since when I’m in a zone not much can pull me away. I can see you are looking at your watch so I think you need to be somewhere. Again thank you and please thank Craig for allowing you to come for the interview. You mentioned the microwave earlier. I have to admit I do not know how to program that coffee machine over there. As you can see it is a little complex. I wonder if you would mind taking a look at it and give me some pointers on how to get it to work. The thought of a cup of coffee while writing sounds wonderful and I can’t think of anyone other than you who might have the skill to get it running”

“Well here’s the thing John. I know that machine and I think you ought to send it back. We have not been friends since the days in the assembly plant when it got the bright idea I would make a good coffee machine mama. I enjoyed the interview and now must fly out and back to Craig to file this interview”

Here is the blurb:

America loves John Cannon, its newest hero, and the President wants to present him with the highest civilian medal for bravery for saving the Annapolis midshipman from a terrorist plot to destroy them. While in Washington for the award ceremony, John unwillingly becomes an accomplice in another plan by the same group to attack the credibility of the US President and the stability of the worldwide oil market. There is no way out as John either becomes a traitor to America or causes thousands of innocent people to die if he refuses.

The second John J Cannon Thriller moves from a barrier Island off the coast of Texas to Washington DC, then to Northern California, and finally to Ecuador. John is on the receiving end of an offer he cannot, refuse. His avowed enemy Matt Jacobs now wants John to help him shake the reputation of the US in the world political arena and disrupt confidence in the government at home. If John refuses, Matt plans to murder innocent Americans including John’s latest relationship. John’s only way out is to pretend to go along with the plan and hope for a miracle.

Excerpt from Chapter one

The water rushes over my head. I’m sinking and don’t know why. With my breath held, I have trouble stopping the air from escaping since the pressure drives the air up and out. I try to keep my mouth closed, but the water pressure pushes the air out more and more. Will I pass out? In the distance, the light is dim. To rise to the surface in time might not be possible─I need to breathe right now. Toward ending the pain in my chest, my rambling mind rationalizes taking a deep breath—even knowing it will end my life. In conflict with the irrational thought of ending it, my body won’t let me suck in the water, as it fights to retain the little bit of oxygen left to fuel my brain.

The despair is nearly overwhelming, and my mind considers other ways to battle the feeling. What more could I have done with my life? The pressure becomes more intense, and I’m about to lose it all, and I decide I’ve lived the way I wanted and have no regrets. I close my eyes and hear only the roar of the sea. I’m so tired. Exhausted. Sleep will fix everything, and I want to give in.

Ive read My GRL, and it’s a great book. I have every intention of reading His Revenge once I work my TBR list down a bit.

John is a versatile fellow, because he not only writes an intriguing thriller, he writes some great humor pieces. These are found on his blog, and are sometimes a serialized short story and sometimes the answer to a writing prompt. They usually involve a great piece of dialog. Here is my attempt at writing dialog as it appears in one of John’s posts. John is a master at this, so I’m probably just going to embarrass myself.

“Hey there, John.”

“Craig? What are you doing here?”

“You invited me to brunch, don’t you remember?”

“There is no brunch scheduled today. Sorry.”

“Let me get my invitation out. Nope, today is the day.”

“Let me see that… Look here, it says Book Launch.”

“Darned bifocals. I’ll come back in what, two hours?”

“For what?”

“Your book lunch, of course.”

“No, it says launch not lunch. See, there’s an extra vowel in there.”

“Whew! Good thing you caught that before your book launch. I’ll swing back by around twelve.”

“Yeah, that would be great, and can you bring a bucket of chicken?”

“Oh, it’s pot luck. I’ll be happy to pick some up.”

(Sorry John) Don’t hold my teasing against John. Check out both of his books and you’ll be glad you did.
