This is it for my big vacation. Back to the office tomorrow to see how far behind I am. At least it was during the holidays, so it might not be so bad.
One of the things I really enjoyed was being a more frequent blogger. I like chatting with you guys and it’s a shame the workaday world changed my schedule so dramatically. I’ll probably be back to a weekly post in no time.
I added a ton of words to my remaining WIP. Today, Mari finally made it home to discover squatters on her farm. I’m this close to finishing this project, but it will have to wait until a weekend or two.
I scheduled my next Story Empire post for later this month. I managed to milk three posts from this topic and I hope you check out my Creature Feature posts.
I also hacked out and scheduled my 2023 business plan post. That one should go live sometime on Wednesday. I’ll handle comments before the commute, but won’t get back around to them until after work.
There are three books of edits, rereads, and modifications ahead of me now. Once this tale is finished, it might be months before I tackle a new draft.
I accomplished a lot during my time off. I managed a short but wonderful visit with my daughter. I took a brief nap nearly every day. We binge watched some good stuff on the streaming channels, and it’s hard to stop at this point.
Still, the actual paycheck covers the bills and it’s time to return to that world.
Sounds like your holidays were wonderful! Good luck finishing Mari and on your edits. It’s fun to shine stories to their absolute best.

That’s not my favorite activity, but I want them to at least be palatable.

Yours are always better than “palatable.”

So, what kind of work brings in the regular paycheck?

Stay with it until retirement.
Glad I did. About to retire again, then I can focus on what I want.

It is sad that work is the curse of the drinking class. Glad you had a productive time off.

It was productive, but had a spoonful of leisure in there, too. Thanks, John.

I’m right there with you, going back to the paycheck world tomorrow, Craig. January means a ton of work for me with a plethora of reports waiting to be cobbled together. Strangely, I’m looking forward to tackling it.
Like you, I’m “thisclose” to finishing my WIP–1.5 to 2 scenes. Also, like you, writing is going to have to wait for the weekend.
Congrats on all your writing progress. Here’s to more muse mojo in 2023!

Sounds like many of us are returning to work tomorrow. It’s a good feeling to get this far in a novel. I know what I want to happen and it will come down to about three scenes I think.

Glad you got so much done during the open time. I finished a project, too! But I’m back to the daily grind tomorrow, as well.

Squatters are a sub plot in a current draft. In yours the “law” doesn’t matter, but in this one it does. Sheriff shows up to see big construction going on. “Well, Earl, they got the ‘open an notorious’ part down.” Good luck.

I’m going to tie to the law anyway. Might be slightly different in my story. More of an adverse possession kind of thing.

Adverse possession is where I am. But for it to be contestable the adverse possession must be “open and notorious”. The usurpers must be obvious in their intent. In my case they’re not only trying to screw an old man but they’re doing it on Indian Nation land. “Fellas, I don’t care if it is the 21st Century. Apaches are still Apaches and an Indian haircut still requires some hide to come along.” Oh well. Good luck! Write well and often.

Hey, that’s a cool twist. Rules are different on Indian land. Mine involves bringing a crop to market. Kind of meets open and notorious requirements.

Thank you. It’s crazy today, but always is after using leave.

Three books! That’s amazing, Craig – but I can see why you’d want a break after all of that. Hope the paycheck job wasn’t too bad this week.

I’ll accomplish the solid goals, I’m pretty sure. Work is always hectic on the first day back.
