Things have been slow around here, but I don’t want you guys to forget about me. I wasn’t designed to work from home, but I’m doing it anyway.
There have been a lot of connectivity issues and delays, but I’m getting things done somehow. I was supposed to be in Savanna this week, but that got canceled. The conference went virtual, so I’ve been attending Zoom meetings like everyone else. It works, but doesn’t encourage a lot of interaction. Today is my flex day, but there was one meeting I wanted to sit in on late morning. This seems to be how it’s done right now.
I always get up early, so I had some writing time before I had to log in. I’ve been on a roll with Lanternfish, but I have samples out for critique. That made it easy enough to eliminate for today.
Nothing I do has a deadline, but I usually have a plan I want to stick with. I hope to get Lanternfish out this summer. You know I hate summer releases, but as book two of a trilogy, I don’t expect much from it until book three is released.
Then we have Lizzie and The Hat. Their current story is called The Ballad of Mrs. Molony. Again, no deadline, but I’d like to have it out for the Halloween season. These are short novels on purpose, and I already have 21K words. No pressure there.
That leaves the anthology story, featuring Jason Fogg. I managed a good 1500 words of it before I had to check in at the office. It’s a bit light for a flex day, but I feel good about it.
I’m writing this one without a storyboard, but at least I have a broad concept and some familiarity with the character. I even dreamed up a new way to take him out. I haven’t written it yet, but it seems there are a few ways to take Jason out. I froze him in his cloud form in an earlier story.
I was told to make this story 10K to 15K words and I’m off to a good start. I think they want it by mid-summer sometime, and if I chip away at it, I should make it.
After my Zoom meeting, I decided to thin Asian pears. This is easiest when they’re BB sized. I use a pair of scissors and go to town. I managed about 2/3 of the tree until my back said no more. I’ll probably prune it a bit, too. I don’t have to thin the branches I’m removing.
I don’t have a new picture, and hated to retire the cool frozen pond background, but it’s time. Winter is over. I’m recycling some bulldog brindle as a background for now. It makes a cool enough graphic.
As I type this, I’m in the process of acquiring some Hattori Hanzo steel in preparation of killing Bill. But first it’s time to get even with Lucy Liu. I think I’ll just bum out for the rest of the day
I had to laugh out loud at your statement about forgetting you. I don’t think a day goes by that there isn’t some kind of review, post, or something to maintain a reminder about your presence. have a great weekend.

It’s been a week since I updated this site, but I was at Story Empire. Glad that you aren’t forgetting me.

The frozen pond was cool, but I’m so done with the cold. Can’t wait to see what you come up with for Jason.

Thanks. I hope it’s up to snuff. I can peck away it it in the evenings, too. I need to get back to the bigger stories and might do that tomorrow.

Zoom meetings are always strange. Feels like most people have to be muted to get anything done. I was in one with 20+ people and only 5-6 interacted. Definitely missing an aspect of human communication.
I feel like I always have a question when you bring up fruit. Does thinning pears mean doing something to the fruit or the tree? Yeah, I’m totally a sheltered suburbanite.

Asian pears set incredible numbers of fruit. Too many to use or grow to maturity. I have to remove most of them until I have one about every six to eight inches. I probably remove twenty for every one I leave.

What do you do with those you remove?

Drop them on the ground. They’re the size of BBs and about as hard right now.

Got it. Though, I’d be tempted to set up some targets and flick them around.

Your story sounds like it’s going to be fun! And I’m ready for Lanternfish 2. Your tree’s way ahead of our crabapple tree. It’s just starting to think about blooming, but it’s close to the house and doesn’t get as much sun as our neighbor’s. Theirs just blossomed out. It sounds like you must have good weather now. Enjoy it, and hope you have a good writing day tomorrow.

The peach stopped blooming a month ago. My crabapple still has blossoms on the high parts. The peach benefits from thinning, too. It just hasn’t set fruit yet.

Sounds like you’re being really productive, and adapting well to the new way of doing things.
Having enjoyed all your previous books, I’m looking forward to the new books – both the Lanternfish one and Lizzie and the Hat’s story – when they come out, regardless of when it is you release them.

I was on a fast track with both of them, but this short story threw me. I’ll work it all out somehow.

Boy do I know what you mean. My district keeps changing their minds about what they want us to do. Then, they tell all the parents BEFORE they tell us.

You’ve been getting a lot done, if you ask me, Craig. Certainly more accomplished than I! Good for you! But if my new plan works, I just might get back in true Productive Mode again, too! 🙂 And I love the bulldog brindle! 😀 Nice background! 🙂

Thanks, Marcia. Frankie thanks you, too.

I could never forget you, Craig!! You are unforgettable. 🙂 Working from home seems to be the new norm, and who knows for how long. I have a feeling that a lot of companies will opt for that even after they don’t have to as long as productivity is up. Sounds like progress on all of your WIPs! What do you do with your Asian Pears? Make Jelly, can them? How are the peaches coming?

I’m afraid companies will use it as an excuse to reduce their own costs, at employee expense. Don’t see peaches yet, but they should form soon. I just eat the Asian pears, but they’re good sliced thin in a salad, too.

You do seem to be posting less, Craig, along with a number of the US blogger/authors I know. I guess there is a lot going on in the US right now. Good progress on your writing, as always.

I think it’s because nothing is going on in the US right now. It’s hard to write about date night, or a fun outing, when those don’t exist. All I have is whatever I’m doing from home.

Yip, it is the same here. I have derived all the fun posts I can from housework, gardening [or not, in my case], washing and other dull stuff. I am now resorting to more baking and fondant art posts.

I loved the frozen pond. It produced a great background. But hey, I’m up for some summer sun, or springtime weather. But I am different, I like the cold as well. Well, as long as it isn’t too cold.

I prefer the cold, but it’s time for something else.

You’re one of my favorite blog brothers, Craig; you could never be forgotten. I was pretty sure your new May background was one of the pups, but I kinda thought (hoped) you’d say it was wolf hair or something a little less accessible…Because I’d have believed you, of all people, would have managed to do that. 😁

Nope, just Frankie, but she wants to be a wolf.

Good for you getting things done at home. I hated working from home, too.
My husband pruned one apple tree and cut off one big life sucking branch from another. I’m so relieved. I love Asian pears. I know I tell you that every year, but OMG I LOVE THEM!
The Mister had a Kill Bill marathon last weekend. I watched Nova. It was a good time had by all 🙂
