Stepped away

I’m really never not here, unless I’m away from wifi. This weekend, I stepped back and ignored everything. I’m sorting through a couple of things, and just needed a breather.

I probably missed some blogs, but I’ll be back online tomorrow. I also have the Story Empire post tomorrow, so I’ll be hanging out there.

I had a house full of company, and needed to devote some time to them. I didn’t write or do much of anything that required a computer. (I checked some baseball scores.)

Do you ever need to step back for a day?

  2. Welcome back! Stepping back for a day isn’t bad. I’ve tried it, but I’ll admit that I always check and I schedule too much to be really away. I’m actually more interested in stepping back from the outside world than the Internet one when I get worn down.

  4. I was without wifi for 3 days on a cruise last week. I felt like I was cut off from the world.

  9. It’s good to do that sometimes. I do it most weeks (it’s meant to be every week, but right now I’m trying to wrap up the last stuff I need to do to get a book out in to the world, so haven’t been so good about stepping away).

  10. I think it’s important to step away. I’ve been trying to do that more on the weekends. We all need a break now and then.

  11. I step back every weekend. It’s been my pattern for years and it helps keep me sane. I do work on writing and blog posts but, for the most part, I stay offline. Mondays are sometimes rough because of the catch-up I have to do. I try to limit my blog posts to Tuesday thru Thurs as a result, but sometimes adding a Monday to the mix can’t be avoided.

  12. We all need to step away from time to time, Craig. It’s for this reason I no longer blog daily and sometimes take a few days to a week away from it. I find it more rewarding that way.

  13. My goal is not to do anything in the blog world on the weekends. That makes Monday my catch-up day. And I am usually behind, but eventually get to the blogs. It just keeps me from constantly being online.

    Great post, Craig.

  15. When I get too gung-ho and push myself too hard, so that I’m frazzled, I step back and take a break. It makes me a better person:) My husband can stand living with me again. And it helps me find my balance in my writing world again. I think breaks are healthy.

  17. Fiction writing is such a heady job; if we don’t step back, our over-weighted heads will just fall off anyway.

  18. In answer to your question, Craig, “YES!” We all need to disconnect now and then. We can get so wrapped up in keeping up with all the social media that we forget to live. Good for you! I hope you enjoyed your company!

  19. Good on you for stepping back, for recognising the need and doing it. And yes, most definitely yes, I need to sometimes. 🤗

  21. Or step back for two weeks? I went to look up a recipe last week and didn’t even know where my laptop was. Seriously, I did get a lot done, but I miss y’all too much to stay away.
