Okay, I suppose nobody needs a pirate hat, but sometimes you just want one. I posted some photos wearing mine the other day as Lorelei talked me into starting on The HMS Lanternfish.
After her encouragement, I actually wrote 3900 words on it. It isn’t much, but it’s a start.
Part of the shtick involved me evolving into a pirate. It was fun, but didn’t show the hat off very well. Today, I want to share some data about the hat.
You might remember way back when I bought my hat stands. I had a guy named Jeff MacKay make them for me.
Jeff did such a good job I wanted him to make me a pirate hat. He has so many options on his website that you can get lost in there for days. This is perfect for someone like me who loves looking at this stuff.
Eventually, I decided upon black, and the base form of Davy Jones’ hat from the Pirates of the Caribbean films. Honestly, this is a big hat, but it doesn’t look exceptionally large now that it’s all folded.
That left me with trim, and trimmings to decide upon. I got Jeff via email and he walked me through it. I was thinking of silver or bronze and he convinced me either one would look good. I also wanted a bunch of plumes.
The pictures from the last post don’t really do it justice, so here are some more hat-centric photos.
The plumes didn’t show up in the last post, and I’m pretty pleased with them.
Buttons, trim, and epaulets.
The water trough.
Where it lives in my office. When I’m not committing acts of piracy.
I never did understand how these kind of hats came into style. They don’t seem to offer shade for the eyes, and they pool water up around the brim. This had to be nothing but pure style of the day. I think they look cool though.
I’m kind of a hat junkie and have dozens of them. While I might not wear this one on date night, it makes a pretty neat display piece.
Jeff offers dozens of styles, multitudes of colors, and different materials and finishes. If you want one in Captain Morgan red he can hook you up. Maybe you prefer Captain Barbosa’s style, he’s your man.
You can find Jeff at his website http://www.captjackspiratehats.com/
Or on his Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/CaptainJacksPirateHats
I’m not being compensated in any way. I just think Jeff is a nice guy, and very talented. If you need one of these for your next display booth, tell Jeff I said hi.
