I woke up early and added a few more words to my WIP, Serang. It didn’t amount to much. When 8:00 rolled around, I talked to my parents for an hour.
Beyond that it was time for a Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich, with a fresh cup of coffee. I added a few more words after that. All in all, it felt like a thousand new words.
Then I quit the new words idea. I needed to reread and make small corrections before sending it to my critique group. I like what’s there, but I’m always nervous about middle sections. Guess I’ll find out what they think later this week.
I should have broken it into two submissions. I didn’t really plan to get that much new stuff accomplished. My wife visiting out of state was spontaneous, so I made the best of it.
Last night I watched a dumpster fire of a ballgame instead of typing away. There’s one on now too, but it looks a bit better.
My wife made it back about an hour ago, and it looks like a wrap on my writing weekend. All in all, it was outstanding. It may be a year before I get this kind of opportunity again, so I made the best of it.
Right now, Serang and her master are camped at the mouth of a canyon and ready to enter the Temple of Wind. It’s probably good to stop here and dwell on it for a week. I need to kind of foreshadow something that is going to happen near the end of the story, and a bit of time might help me do a better job of it.
I also need to consider wind, sounds, echoes, temperatures, shadows, and more for the Temple of Wind. Time is my friend now.
Back to the real world tomorrow.
Sounds like a good writing weekend, all in all. Enjoy the game and time with the missus before the workweek starts again.

Glad you got to put the real world on hold for a while. And you’re to a place where ideas can ferment and grow. Hope the rest of your Sunday is great!

Can’t miss, Judi. I need a bit of that fermentation time now anyway.

Ugh, on the real world! I dread going back tomorrow. DH and I got early, had breakfast out then hit Home Depot for some things we needed. I spent the afternoon writing then we caught some TV together. Highly relaxing day with beautiful sunshine throughout (perfect since our new weather station arrived from Amazon). I need a nice long writing break like you had!

The weather station sounds cool. I love the idea of a breakfast date.

We do breakfast out every weekend, either Saturday or Sunday, Usually do a Friday lunch or dinner, too. 🙂

Weekend well spent! I am not ready to real world it tomorrow, man. I predict late nights this week. Oy.

I’m good with it now. One advantage to a government job, no overtime.

Sounds like a fantastic weekend, especially from a writing point of view. Hope the time in the real world this week gives you the fermentation time you need, and you get great feedback on what you’ve done so far.

Thanks, Victoria. I need to step away for a few days. It tends to make the story better because the next section is in my face now. I will focus my thoughts on it prior to writing.

Good on you for such a great weekend of writing… and what’s a Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich? You always eat the most interesting things!!

These are frozen sandwiches from the store. Biscuit, scrambled egg, sausage, cheese. 99 seconds in the microwave. Nothing too special.

Ah yes, the real world. It’s not nearly as much fun as the make believe one. 🙂 Have you considered entitling the new book simple, “Serang?” Just a thought.

Oh yeah, that is the title. Cover art is already ordered. I’m close on a title for the other one too, but it can wait.

Your WIP sounds exciting, Craig! I love that feeling of a first draft, when you’re still figuring everything out. And nice to have some writing time to yourself – seems like you were able to make the most of it 🙂

It was pure luck. I don’t often get chances like this, so I tried to move it forward. Drafting is my favorite part of the process.

Back to the real world – But why? Why can’t we play a little longer? 🙂

Ha ha! The real world helps us appreciate the fantasy world a bit more.

I really love your last full paragraph here – reminding yourself to think of the details (many sensory details) to help enrich your story. Many of us, me especially, would benefit from slowing down and thinking about those details in our own writing. 🙂 Love it.

Thanks, Leesha. Nobody writes about this stuff, but time away to dwell on things is important. The MS will be there when I’m ready.
