Look at this one as a real world example of being an author today.
With the release of The Hat yesterday, I have a lot of things to do to bring it to the attention of the masses. I’m quitting now, but it’s not quite as lazy as 11:00 AM sounds.
I woke up in a pile of bulldogs at 4:00 AM this morning, and have been largely covered with them all day in various positions. They like their early morning poodle time, but I can place my iPad on the arm of my chair and type away.
Old What’s Her Face decided to wash our bedspread yesterday, so we had an alternate last night. This freaked the dogs out for some reason. They were kinds of twitchy all night. I swear they are like Sheldon Cooper in that regard. Between the dogs, the nightly kink in by back, and my bladder it was just easier to get started.
I tweaked six different posts about the new book and sent them to their respective hosts. This included all the necessary attachments and such. Then I filled out an interview form for another one, and assembled a post for Story Empire later this month. All of them required at least one extra email, and my iPad battery is about dead too.
Then I assembled no less than four guest posts for Entertaining Stories. Seems like a lot of other folks are releasing books right now too. Everything is scheduled to post right now.
There will be traffic jams, but I’ll simply have to deal with it. My guests can have the spotlight until after I get home from work. If one of my hosts posted that day, I’ll try to reblog it then. I want to reblog in the hopes of sending my hosts as much traffic as I can. They don’t get much out of this, but maybe I can get them a follower or two.
As for me, I’m calling it a day on the author front. Old What’s Her Face found some strange ice cream I’ve grown fond of, and I feel like I deserve a treat. It’s made with marscapone, figs, and balsamic vinegar. Don’t wrinkle your nose up until you’ve tried it.
I’d never wrinkle my nose at any ice cream. It’s my weakness, and my husband isn’t afraid to use it to get his way. 😉 How you get anything done with those adorable faces staring back at you is anyone’s guess.

The problem is when I let them cuddle and sleep, they go ballistic in the afternoons and evenings. I mean like insane family of badgers crazy.

Sorry, I wrinkled my nose anyway:) But it must be good–if you say so:) Pets are lovable, but they cost you sleep. You already got a lot done for the day. Good for you!

Without any trimmings, marscapone ice cream is wonderful. The rest just adds a little extra. I think I put my hours in today.

That’s an odd ice cream combination, but I’ve heard stranger. Congrats on the book release. Just grabbed my copy.

It’s really good too. I’d trust this company with other weird combos. Thanks for checking out the book. I know your schedule doesn’t allow for a ton of reading, so I’m honored. I think you’ll like it.

I’ll do my best. This year has really started on the wrong foot. Doesn’t help that I think my Kindle died. 😱

That doesn’t help. I’ve never owned one. I use an app. Maybe your phone screen isn’t too tiny.

Phone screen isn’t too bad. Battery sucks. I can read on my laptop too when I have a moment. Novellas seem more doable than novels these days.

I think that’s a fact for a lot of us, and part of the reason why I wanted a couple of them in my catalog.

I’m terrible at writing novellas. Short stories are possible, but I can’t restrain myself with novellas. My horror stuff I do every October might fall into that category. Maybe it’s another reason I’m not confident with that thing.

I found a good storyboard very helpful. I didn’t miss the slog through the middle either. Your Dawn stories probably qualify.

That might be another part of my problem. I enjoy the ‘slog’ in the middle because it never feels like one.

Maybe that’s why you can pull off a series and it doesn’t appeal to me. Never thought if it that way before.

It’s all for the best. If every author had the same strengths and tendencies then it would be rather boring. 😉

The ice cream sounds good. I love it when the temps go down. The dogs all seem to need to cuddle.

Otto is still up here. They’re going to be crazy tonight. All rested up.

I can take or leave ice cream (don’t judge me), but that flavor sounds DELICIOUS! Which I could get anything remotely Italian here in the south, but Walmart won’t even carry spumoni.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend, Craig. And best of luck with the release of The Hat.

Wish, not which. That’s twice I did something like that today. Sigh. Sorry.

Pffft. I do that all the time in comments. I don’t even worry about them anymore.

She bought it at Albertsons. I was surprised they had something like that. Moving into a fresh phase tomorrow, but today is about done.

I don’t have an Albertsons. I live in Arkansas, famous for being the headquarters of Walmart. So I have a choice of shopping at Walmart, Walmart Market, Walmart, Sam’s Club, or Walmart. At least there’s one on every corner (even if they don’t carry Italian food).

Bummer. You need a specialty market at least.

We have a lot of Hispanic markets, a few Asian stores, and one Greek one. I’ve never been in there, though. It’s in a creepy strip mall that’s always deserted.
When I make Easter pizzas, I go to a smaller grocery chain that’s crazy expensive, but at least they carry Italian lunchmeat. But at $16/pound, it’s not worth it (except that once a year).

Yeah, that’s a little expensive. Maybe Amazon has some solutions for everything that isn’t fresh or frozen.

My nose wrinkled too, but I’ll try not to judge. We had the cows get loose next door and scare the heck out of my cats when one of the bulls showed up face-to-face in our picture window.

I’m with the dogs. If my bed isn’t how it should be, I don’t sleep well. Remember the pillows?
They’re so cute 🙂
That ice cream sounds DIVINE! Who makes it?

I remember the pillows. (Never forget actually) The tub is just tiny and I threw it away. It was some off brand called something-or-other Haus. That’s all I remember.

Good work day already. I love anything with balsamic vinegar, but my very most favorite is chunks of watermelon dunked in it. We’re on ice cream restriction right now. 😦 Both me and hubby trying to assure we can fit into last years clothes. Saving for a retirement that’s just around the corner, we can’t afford new 😉

You probably have access to the resort where you don’t need them.

If you ever get around to bottling what you take every day, I will be first in the queue!

It might be a stretch to say every day. I’m kind of pooped this morning.

I don’t know how you do everything you do, Craig. I know how long it takes to set up blog posts and I couldn’t manage something like Lisa’s radio show. I am sharing your The Hat posts as much as possible.

I saw the FB post. Thank you so much.

Sounds like a very productive morning, even if it started earlier than planned.
I shared your announcement post, and will be happy to offer a spot on my blog if you need one. No worries if you don’t, but I figured I’d let you know, in case you want to take me up on the offer. I did mention it before, but thought I’d make sure you know the offer still stands.

Thanks for sharing, and I may take you up on that. I’m still recovering from the first wave of things today. Lots of follow-up today, and I still need to work on Lisa B Radio posts this weekend.

No worries. You should have my eMail, so if you decide to take me up on the offer, just give me a shout when you’re ready. 🙂

I love these new fusion ice creams – I think the balsamic will complement the figs brilliantly! 😀
As for the author front – you accomplished much more in half a day than I can do in 2 days, just now! 😛 Kudos!!!

It poops me out though. Lots of follow-up today. No new words going down while all this is going on.

But work with/for peers and bolstering up your ‘old’ words with promo-oriented stuff is the author stuff as well! 😉
Talking about pooping out is a sore point for me at the moment – I physically can’t stay on the keyboard as much as I want/need to… 😛

It’s part of the job, no doubt. At least I get to chat with friends about the project. I recommend the ice cream break.

Your bulldogs are like lap cats 🙂
I managed two scenes on my novel today and was feeling pretty pumped. Then I read your post and few like a slacker. You kicked butt. You have me thinking about all the blog posts I’ve been meaning to write. Sometimes putting those to bed gives me more of a sense of accomplishment then actual novel word count.
Congrats on hammering down the to-do list! And, of course, the release of The Hat.

The task list goes on, but phase one is accomplished on my end. I want to write new words too, but this part has to take priority right now.
