I have three days off, and two of those will let me get some things done. I intended to monkey with some micro-fiction tonight, but didn't get that far.
The best I could manage was to change my wallpaper again. I like the speed racers, but the white Bonneville Salt Flat, mixed with the white page of my blog was too much for me. I cropped some of the sky out, and used a picture of the Sawtooth Mountains. This one may not be perfect, but I'm content with it.
My wife and I watched The Passengers on television tonight. I thought it was a wonderful movie. A little romance, a little science fiction, a bit of Titanic disaster. Good film.
I have a critique I need to work through, and that will take about fifteen minutes. I need to work up a couple more shticks for Lisa Burton Radio and send them out. Then I have a backlog of interview requests, but I have to keep the line moving too.
Beyond that, I want to write three micro-fiction pieces for October.
My main distraction is wanting to start one of my novellas. A blogger/author friend told me she wrangled 5000 words today. That's a tremendous day, and it calls to me to get started. I need to resist the call.
I committed to two October promotions this week. I haven't gotten any additional instructions, but will need to write something for those eventually.
Besides, I'm behind on my reading. I have at least three, possibly four books I need to read. If I resist the writing call for a couple of weeks, I may get a couple of those checked off.
It's a tough call to resist.

I know what you mean. It would be great to just focus on writing those ideas down and not worry about the other stuff. Unfortunately, if we want the books read by anyone but ourselves, the rest of the stuff is important. Hope you can get some actual writing time in soon though.

Have to admit that I like this background a little better. The racer one seemed a little too busy and drew my attention away from posts whenever I scrolled along. Trying to remember what movie ‘The Passengers’ was because I think I was waiting for it to show up on the premium channels.
The temptation of tackling the big fish is always there. I’m going to be fighting that all month starting next Monday. Keep telling myself that other things take priority, the story will be there when I get the time, and I’ve got enough on my plate that I don’t really need the big fish just now. That’s just me though. The priority mantra tends to help though.

The movie arrived on the premium channels. They wake up from a suspended state too early while traveling to another planet. It’s good. Maybe short fiction can keep the wolf quiet for a while.

I love this background. ‘Course, I’m a sucker for the mountains anyway. We can only manage so much in a short time-span. I’m overwhelmed too, with the summer weather calling, “Sue, come out and play.” It’s not easy to balance a life with author duties, as you know. Sometimes, we just gotta stay laser-focused and get ‘er done. That’s where I’m at this week, too. We’ve taken quite a few day trips to quell the voice for a while…I hope. 🙂

I really enjoyed Passengers. I don’t often have time to watch movies, but I try to make time for Chris Pratt (lol). I don’t care for Jennifer Lawrence as a general rule, but I really liked that movie. (Trying to avoid a spoiler here…) A lot of people had problems with what the male lead did, and the woman’s ultimate final reaction, but I thought both were totally believable. It was one of the best movies I’ve seen recently, but then again, I don’t have time to watch movies often, so that might not be saying much. The last movie I liked that much was Fracture, but then again, I’m an Anthony Hopkins fan. (I’m not counting superhero movies in this mix. That’s a whole separate genre and I watch those, when I can, for a whole different reason.)

I thought they could have delved deeper into solitary confinement to sell the situation, but really enjoyed the film. The race cars were too white overall and fussy after a couple of days. I had to change it, and the mountains were what I had.

1200 words is a good day. When I hit 2000 it’s cause to celebrate. I broke ten-thousand one day, but I had a detailed outline and was on a roll. Total relaxation? What’s that?

My take is, write when you have the inspiration. The reading will always be there, but the ability to get words on the page may dry up at times.

It’s always a toss up for me….read or write. Writing always wins out on the weekends, reading during the week.
This is also stupid shark week on Syfy (Attack of the Three-Headed Shark, Sharktopus, Mississippi River Shark, etc. Sharknado 5, Global Swarming is the crown jewel). The DVR is doing overtime. I’m an intelligent person, but I always get sucked into these things.
