Facelift, because February is a crappy month

I decided to avoid the whole February theme this month. I'm a few days early, but…

Gong Hey Fat Choi

Come Saturday, we will enter the Year of the Rooster, and not just any rooster a Fire Rooster. Beyond that, I got nuthin. I asked Lisa to bring in a fire rooster, but Amazon is fresh out of them. Never one to back down, we had Gallicus the cockatrice stop by this month.

Gallicus appears in my fantasy novel, The Cock of the South. Look, he even managed to get on the cover.

The Southern Dwarves are a conquered race. Scattered and hidden they must flee the legions of Remus before they all become slaves.

An unlikely dwarf, known as Cobby, leads them to a place where they can live in peace. He discovers other downtrodden races along the way and recruits them to his mission. These include centaurs, Amazons, satyrs, and more. There aren't enough of anyone to make a difference, but together they might stand a chance.

There are quite a few dwarf stories around, and I wanted to do something different with them. The setting is Greco Roman, and the times are brutal. This book contains violence, you have been warned.

It was fun trying to keep what readers expect from dwarves, and still add something different. Part Spartacus, part Exodus, I hope you will give The Cock of the South a chance.

If you're of a mind, here is the link again.

  2. Didn’t realize there was an elemental aspect to the Chinese New Years. Need to look that up for more info.

  3. Gong Hey Fat Choi to you too! Let’s hope the Fire Rooster is more benevolent than it sounds 😀 Like the makeover too, and the book sounds like an interesting take on a dwarf take, but then I’d expect nothing less from you 😀

This is really annoying… I cant see your facelift cos my my wp app wont let me view it out of the app. It just shows me a white background with your post text on it. This is fairly new, and its not doing it with all blogs, just some. Its like the reader only with no visit button, and even if I click on your blog heading it shows me all your posts but in the same context. Grrrrr….
Sorry about the rant! I can honestly say I loved this book, and highly recommend it to anyone reading this post who hasn’t yet read the book… go get it!

    • I quit using the app a couple of years ago. An app should be user friendly, and it isn’t. I never could figure out how to upload an image using it. Might be handy to snap a photo with my phone and upload it for everyone.

I only use it for reading blogs and replying to comments. Now even that has changed, and not for the better. I tried to use it to write a post once when I was on holiday… complete disaster! It is c..p for writing posts! Just dont do it. Ever.

  6. LOL Was he always on the cover? Something tells me he slipped on when Lisa had her back turned. We had a rooster murder here the other day, a beheading by the notorious Fischer cats that live on our mountain. Poor thing.

  7. I like the pop of color on the site, Craig. Very festive.

My kids are black belts in Tae Kwon Do, and when we lived in Ohio, the school was affiliated for a while with a Chinese Kung Fu school. Because my son was the highest ranking student (he’s a second degree, my daughter is a first degree), he got to be part of the dragon dance ceremony during the Chinese New Year celebration at the school. It was very cool. Seeing your site like this brings back some wonderful memories.
