Today is the day that makes keepers of the family budget quake in fear. The day we dread all year long. Our family members are all well fed from Thanksgiving dinner, and are in prime shape to hit the stores running.
Not me. Not this year. Not ever again.
I'll be right here. I'm worn out from all the peopleing yesterday. I may write. I may veg in front of the television. I may even read a book. I still have to meet my book club quota for this quarter.
Are you heading out for Black Friday?
Honestly? I dislike Black Friday and everything it stands for. I avoid buying anything! It has exactly the opposite effect on me. Instead today I’ve sung nursery ryhmes with the Bean, walked to the village shop to buy a loaf of bread (my only purchase and at full price), created a leaf collage with the beanster, rearranged her stone collection and now I’m about to sit down to try and do some research for an interview I have for a storytelling consultancy! It’s been quite a colourful Friday in our house 😀 Hope you’re having a good day too.

All my company is going out shopping. I’m looking forward the the quiet and may read or write.

Perfect picture. Home nursing a sick child here. Feels more natural than clotheslining an octogenarian for a decent tv.

I’m with you. My company is all going out shopping though. I asked them if their insurance is up to date.

Isn’t this for stores to clear old stock? Also, why does anybody need a new tv every year?

I swear some of those purchases go straight to EBay right after the sales end. It’s a flipping operation.

That wouldn’t surprise me. Especially the video game stuff.

No way in hell would you catch me out there today. My husband and son headed out to the mall around 4 am this morning. They came back in around 7am. Luckily they got in early and out unscathed. I have only gone out once shopping on Black Friday and I had such a panic attack from the crowds I have vowed never to do it again. I will leave it to the more brave souls.

I feel the same way. Glad you stood your ground and let them “enjoy” it.

We sorta ignore that it goes on, though I have been known to hit the internet “Black Friday” sales for things like winter coats for the kids… things I know I need anyway. But there ain’t no way I am gonna venture into a real store at all this weekend…

We’ve done the online part before. My wife still likes to go elbow her way through, but she does it without me.

Well – I’m lucky in that we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving over here, so at least I wasn’t forced to be sociable yesterday. We are up to our ears in Black Friday/Week sales however. I confess that I’m not resistant to all the materialism in that I’m having a major revamp of the house and contents so there’s some major spending that’s been irresistable, but I’ll probably wait until January for the really big purchasers for things like white (in my case black) goods and major league furniture… all done virtually natch! 😉
No mall-frenzy for this lazy Lady! 😛

I think shopping with a purpose is great. You’re smart to have a list and take advantage of the sales. After Christmas could be a great way to revamp the house.

No, I’m not going out.
It was funny Wednesday when Sassy said her twin friends are having a party tomorrow, and she wondered if maybe he’d take her out to get them presents today.
He was like, “Child, do you know what Friday is?!?”

Gotta love kids. I’m a shutin on Black Friday, and like it that way. Enjoy your home time.

I had to go out and do grocery shopping, that was enough for me, lol. Although, I did pick up a few things online last night.

Yeah, we have a mountain of food from yesterday. No need to even do that much today.

No reason to spend the time traveling and doing the impossible lines. Shop online!

I agree, and we do mostly that.

I made a brief foray with my daughter about 10 am, after the early crowd had thinned. She wanted one thing. She found her thing. We returned home, triumphant.
And I spent the day doing final research for my self-publishing project. It was all good.

My crowd was out for about 12 hours. I used the time to read, do some minor edits, and write. I think we all had fun, it’s just in different flavors.

I stayed in and watched three games. It was glorious.

We did that on Thanksgiving. I was about footballed out on Friday.

I can understand that.

Nope. Never have since the early 90s when I was nearly trampled at Filene’s Basement. Vertically-challenged people don’t stand a chance in the crowds. 😉 Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.

Ours was great. They went out the next day shopping, and Otto & I held down the fort. I even managed to write a little bit.

I’m late in popping online because of the holiday…and Black Friday shopping, so yup, I hit the stores! A friend and I used to go regularly back in the crazy days, but Black Friday shopping is no longer the terror people think it is. Mostly because it now starts at 6PM on Thanksgiving day. You won’t catch me out on Turkey Day, but I did enjoy picking up a bunch of deals on Black Friday. And you know what? There were no crowds!

Reports from my peeps were long lines and big crowds. I didn’t even try going so I could drink beer. Even Old Chicago fills past capacity.
