It’s Black Friday

Today is the day that makes keepers of the family budget quake in fear. The day we dread all year long. Our family members are all well fed from Thanksgiving dinner, and are in prime shape to hit the stores running.

Not me. Not this year. Not ever again.

I'll be right here. I'm worn out from all the peopleing yesterday. I may write. I may veg in front of the television. I may even read a book. I still have to meet my book club quota for this quarter.

Are you heading out for Black Friday?

  1. Honestly? I dislike Black Friday and everything it stands for. I avoid buying anything! It has exactly the opposite effect on me. Instead today I’ve sung nursery ryhmes with the Bean, walked to the village shop to buy a loaf of bread (my only purchase and at full price), created a leaf collage with the beanster, rearranged her stone collection and now I’m about to sit down to try and do some research for an interview I have for a storytelling consultancy! It’s been quite a colourful Friday in our house 😀 Hope you’re having a good day too.

  2. Perfect picture. Home nursing a sick child here. Feels more natural than clotheslining an octogenarian for a decent tv.

  3. No way in hell would you catch me out there today. My husband and son headed out to the mall around 4 am this morning. They came back in around 7am. Luckily they got in early and out unscathed. I have only gone out once shopping on Black Friday and I had such a panic attack from the crowds I have vowed never to do it again. I will leave it to the more brave souls.

  4. We sorta ignore that it goes on, though I have been known to hit the internet “Black Friday” sales for things like winter coats for the kids… things I know I need anyway. But there ain’t no way I am gonna venture into a real store at all this weekend…

  5. Well – I’m lucky in that we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving over here, so at least I wasn’t forced to be sociable yesterday. We are up to our ears in Black Friday/Week sales however. I confess that I’m not resistant to all the materialism in that I’m having a major revamp of the house and contents so there’s some major spending that’s been irresistable, but I’ll probably wait until January for the really big purchasers for things like white (in my case black) goods and major league furniture… all done virtually natch! 😉
No mall-frenzy for this lazy Lady! 😛

  9. No, I’m not going out.
It was funny Wednesday when Sassy said her twin friends are having a party tomorrow, and she wondered if maybe he’d take her out to get them presents today.
He was like, “Child, do you know what Friday is?!?”

  10. I had to go out and do grocery shopping, that was enough for me, lol. Although, I did pick up a few things online last night.

  11. No reason to spend the time traveling and doing the impossible lines. Shop online!

  12. I made a brief foray with my daughter about 10 am, after the early crowd had thinned. She wanted one thing. She found her thing. We returned home, triumphant.

And I spent the day doing final research for my self-publishing project. It was all good.

  14. Nope. Never have since the early 90s when I was nearly trampled at Filene’s Basement. Vertically-challenged people don’t stand a chance in the crowds. 😉 Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.

  15. I’m late in popping online because of the holiday…and Black Friday shopping, so yup, I hit the stores! A friend and I used to go regularly back in the crazy days, but Black Friday shopping is no longer the terror people think it is. Mostly because it now starts at 6PM on Thanksgiving day. You won’t catch me out on Turkey Day, but I did enjoy picking up a bunch of deals on Black Friday. And you know what? There were no crowds!
