It’s election day

I reject your reality and substitute my own. I’ve listened to all of the political venom being spewed about for over a year now. I’ve grown tired of being online during all the mud slinging and rah-rahing. I’ve skipped the national news for nearly two years now. Local news I still watch. Friends post political stuff that I simply flip past now.

Every interesting thing on social media leads to some commenter making snide political remarks. I hope that it all ends after the election, but I’m sure it will just change to different targets. This is the fun of the two party system.

Idaho effectively disenfranchised me by going to a caucus system. It was fairly simple to cast a vote in a primary election. I could do it after working a full shift. In the caucus, I have to dedicate an entire day to some kind of strange game. I know who I like and who I dislike. They knew this when they changed the law. Keep people like me from participating and only the select ones will show up and choose our rulers.

Seconds to punch a ballot, all day to play caucus roulette.

Now we’re stuck with two candidates that scare the hell out of me. In my opinion, whoever wins America loses. It’s all a bit like this:

While everyone else is choosing which Horseman of the Apocalypse they prefer, I’m going to hang out with my robot at the writing cabin.

I dont blame you. This is one hell of a scary day in international politics, because America’s choice affects the whole world, not just the US. Its a huge burden on the shoulders of the American people.

  2. Yeah. The damage really seems to already be done. Don’t see the 9th being any better regardless of who wins. Saddest thing is that it didn’t even stay within our own borders. I’ve seen the same amount of vitriol come from people in other countries. It’s aimed at mocking Americans and acting like we all chose this. Nobody running throughout the whole process seemed worth it.

  4. I agree, and love the “choice of destructor”. Stay strong, we will get through this, no matter the results. I’m secretly hoping that neither one gets to 270, and we will get to see our Constitution in play.

    • I want a mulligan for the whole election. Open the doors again, 30 days to campaign, vote. Either that or handle it like jury duty, selective service can probably handle that. It would be a crap shoot, but I like the odds better.

  6. I hate that anywhere makes it harder to vote. I really do want a universal system, and I want it declared a federal holiday, too. I come really close to wanting it mandatory as well, but then I remember apathy is a choice.
We were there at 6, took about an hour. There were three precincts, three lines, and we had one of the shorter lines.
I know that some of the people on my social media never tire of their nasty opinions, ever. Some of them will be ranting til the day they die. Both sides. I’m good at scrolling by, too 🙂

    • Yeah, all of that. I’m usually forced to choose the lesser evil, and haven’t wanted a candidate for decades now. This time it feels much different. I’m to the point of scrolling until I find cute animals or interesting photos. Everything else is suspect.

  7. I have stopped reading the political crap. Those who have chosen a side and then join in the poop fest are ones I particularly avoid. There are some writers I respect for their work but now disrespect for their blindness. America is in deep trouble and no amount of hate rhetoric (both sides) has helped. Great post, Craig.

    • Different topic: I am so into your book right now. I want to go to an igloo and converse with whatever is in there. When is all this going to become the next television sensation? You have enough story lines and some great characters.

      • WOW! You thoroughly made my day. I’m so glad you’re enjoying it. This one is my favorite of the three. As for a television sensation….I’ll toss that in with the other dreams, LOL!

  9. I’ve vowed to stop watching anything but local news – sick and tired of all the mudslinging. I did vote, though. We need to pray for our country,

Yes, people in my country wait with anxiety the results of USA voting. The installment of an American shield on our territory, a while ago, deepened the adversity between us and the”big bear”, Russia, our constant enemy.
so, many hope that Hillary will win, but I understand your disinterest. It’s the same around here. Corruption, politicians creating laws that protect them and their fortune, illegally acquired make people ignore the voting day. And the politicians have a huge profit out of it. They bribe the poor ones with this and that and those will go and decide the fate for everybody.

Apart from that, I like the background of your blog now.

  11. What I wouldn’t give for a cabin in the woods! I don’t even watch local news but then I rarely did ever. I’m a bad citizen. I fear tomorrow will be the beginning of a bumpy ride.

  12. Looks like it’s a case of damned if you do and damned if you don’t… I think you’re probably right Craig – not much to choose between them! 😦

  13. Now that the results are in, I’ll see you on the other side of the apocalypse. Maybe it’s time for me to get that cabin in the mountains I’ve always dreamt of…
