Princess of the Light, on Lisa Burton Radio

Welcome to another edition of Lisa Burton Radio, the show that interviews the characters you love. Today I'm in the studio with Lisbeth who is an actual demon from Hell. “Welcome, Lisbeth. I have to say you don't look very demonic.”

“Touché, although to be fair, you don’t look like any machine I’m familiar with. Say, do you like my new ensemble? Normally, I wear my gold leather pantsuit (with matching collar and whip) but I’m getting tired of the whole BDSM thing. Aren’t you? I’m trying to revamp my look, you know, steering away from the whole Jessica Rabbit look.”

“For our listeners, Lisbeth is wearing a black suit with a white lace bustier and strappy black heels. I think I remember seeing something similar in Vogue last month.”

“It's Hugo Boss, you know the designer for the Nazis. He's one of ours now.”

“I see, so what is your role in Hell?”

“I’m your run of the mill succubus. I go around and tempt men using sex as a weapon to get them to our side.”

“Your side?

“Ah yes, I forget you’re a robot. Let me detail this for you. There are two sides fighting for supremacy on Earth: good and evil. I’m a demon and I work for Lucifer. You’ve heard of him, haven’t you? Lucifer is the CEO of Hell and there’s an intricate hierarchy of demons. Every demon has special skills/talents and we’ve got a soul quota every week (think telemarketers). I’m a succubus and my skills are sexually driven. My purpose is to have sex with human men (although I’ve been branching out to women in recent years) and tempt them to pledge their souls to Lucifer.

“I know it sounds like fun, right? Well, you’d be wrong. Sure, it’s fun to have multiple orgasms and alpha men clamoring for my affection. But I get ridiculed by other demons all the time. They think it’s easy to be a succubus… but it takes a lot of work to pull off a good seduction.

“The worst part is that I’ve been turned down twenty-two times for promotions. I’m smart, smarter than most of the demons above me, and no one will give me a chance. They pat me on the head and make fun. Especially Than.”

“Than?”

“Yeah, Than is Lucifer’s second-in-command and he thinks he’s the shit. He won’t give me the time of day, other than to get off. Men…”

“It's good to have ambitions. How do you intend to get noticed and get that promotion?”

“I already have a plan formulating. I was walking down the halls towards Lucifer’s study when I overheard a secret conversation. I think I can show it to you magically…”

Than straightens his body and looks around. He’s in Lucifer’s study not the throne room. Lucifer doesn’t look amused. and the putrescence of rotting souls hangs in the air. “The Princess of the Light has been called.”

Lucifer explodes in a rage, his talons lengthened to sharpened points, his anger setting fire to books, tapestries, scrolls, anything in his path. “He has gone too far!”

Than flinches and attempts to calm him down. Whispers and rumors about the Princess have circulated around Hell for almost a thousand years. The old demons talked about her in hushed tones, like she’s the end of Hell. “What does the prophesy say, Lucifer?”

Lucifer looks at Than and takes a few deep breaths. “The prophesy speaks of a Princess of the Light and a Warrior of the Light being called to lead the army of God. She will come when the Dark One arises and will vanquish all of Hell into nothingness.”

Than gasps and start to tremble. “Can she really do that?”

“Yes, she will. The prophesy also speaks of a Warrior who will banish the Dark One into nothingness.” Lucifer stares hard into Than’s eyes.

Than pales and shakes his head. “I won’t let this prophesy happen, Lucifer. Everything is in place for the Dark One and I will see it through. We will defeat her, like we defeated Andre.”

“What does she look like? Is she beautiful?”

“She is beautiful, yes, but weak. She doubts her own abilities and is afraid of snakes, of all things.”

Lucifer laughs. “We can use that to our advantage. So, she is weak? I like that. If we attack now, she will not be ready or able to defeat us so quickly as the prophesy states.”

Than grins. “Leave it to me, Lucifer. I will see to her destruction. God couldn’t save Andre and the same will be true now.”

“Listen to me carefully, if Gabriel is her protector, then you will need more forces to double-team her. Take Lisbeth and attack the Princess from all sides. Do not reveal our plan for the Dark One! I have kept it hidden from God and I will be victorious!” Lucifer tilts his head back and laughs wickedly.

“I will bring Lisbeth in and together we will break the Princess.” Than smirks, bows and leaves.

“Lisa, I retreated so fast that I ran right into one of my sex slaves. I didn’t want to be caught eavesdropping by Than or Lucifer so I grabbed Donald and disappeared in a puff of smoke. This is my one chance to make an impression and I’m not going to blow it. Male demons climb the corporate ladder using any means necessary and I’m determined to do the same. Lucifer’s going to be confiding in me soon, not Than.

“My plan? I’m going to use Than to get access to the foretold Princess and defeat her. I’m smarter than Than and I’ll seduce him to get what I want. He’s an easy target, anyway. He has 'feelings' for the Princess… yuck. And they call me perverted.”

“Oddly enough, It's not the craziest plan I've ever heard. Do you think it will work? I don't know Brain, what do you want to do tonight…”

“Is that your best attempt at humor? Quoting a has-been cartoon? I’m disappointed in you, Lisa. I thought we were becoming friends.

“Getting back to my plan…I tried it once and failed miserably. The Princess and Warrior together were much stronger than even Lucifer was prepared for. Lucifer got so mad at my attempts that he kicked me out of Hell. Who knew that killing innocents was a bad thing? But I’ll get my revenge. I have my own army and soon I’ll be Queen of Everything. The Princess and her precious Warrior will be my slaves, begging for their deaths, before I’m through.”

“If you become the Queen of–“

When, Lisa. When I become the Queen of Everything. All of humanity will worship me.”

“Okay, when you become the Queen of Everything, what's left to live for?”

“Astarom. He’s one demented demon, torturing humans by hugging the Light and Love out of them. Delicious. He’s stood by me through it all and we share a forbidden love.”

“Forbidden? Since when is love forbidden?”

“Demons aren’t wired to love; we’re designed to create chaos, torture and steal souls to an eternity of hopeless torment. If a demon loves another, they’re thrown out of Hell and turned over to Heaven.

“Lisbeth, I wish you the best of luck. I mean, kind of, maybe not the absolute best. Um.”

“Thanks Lisa, and if you’re ever looking for a new look, gimme a ring.”

“Do you think you can fix me up with some of that Hugo Boss stuff?”

“Sure, your body is curvy in the right places… Hugo’s dream model.”

“It looks like we're out of time today. Lisbeth's interview was sponsored by Princess of the Light, by N. N. Light. This book is on sale for 99¢ all during the month of September, so hurry over there and get your copy today. It helps me keep the lights on around here.”

  1. Lisbeth sounds like one determined demon. It’s a good thing to know there’s a Princess of Light! And Lisa is certainly expanding her roster of guests. I loved the way she sort of, um, wished luck, um 😀

Many thanks to Lisa for the killer interview. Lisbeth had such fun and she’s confident she’s front ‘n center today instead of “that goody two shoes little princess and her hunky boy-toy.” 😉
