Last night fulfilled a bucket list item for me, kind of. I’m not a huge believer in bucket lists, but I’ll just say I’ve wanted to do this for a long time.
The final tour for Motley Crüe came to Boise, and my wife wanted to go. I moaned about the ticket price, and the fact that I’d already been to one of their concerts. She said, “But Honey, they’re on tour with Alice Cooper.”
That was all I needed to know. We bought our tickets about six months ago. Last night was the night.
Alice Cooper was phenomenal. I first stumbled across him in the early 1970s, and my eight track player was always loaded with one of his tapes. I’ve always heard that he put on the best, and most theatrical live shows. Until last night, I’d never seen one.
I Googled it, Cooper is 67 years old now. I wish I had gone out of my way to see him sooner. It would have been worth a trip to the coast, or Phoenix to take in his show.
He’s had a long career, and the show was a mixture of older and newer music. He chose well. I still lamented the songs I didn’t get to hear.
I never got to play with the Black Widow, or Go To Hell, there was no help from Nurse Rosetta, or a trip to the Quiet Room.
There are just too many songs for him to cover them all in the scope of a concert. I still knew every song, and had a great time.
His choices ran the gamut from oldies like Under My Wheels and Eighteen, to his newer hits like Poison and Feed My Frankenstein.
How could he not include Frankenstein. It just screams to be part of a live show. This included some cool electrodes, and a fifteen foot monster running around stage chasing the band members. My picture is crap, but that’s Frankie behind the band members. That ought to give you an idea of scale.
I may have been to over a hundred concerts in my life. I’ve seen everything from country to acid rock. There are some things that become staple items. I’ve seen fog, lasers, fireworks, and all the usual things before.
This show had swords, straight jackets, electrodes, a working guillotine, and a fifteen foot monster. (Did I mention the monster?)
I am one happy dude today, and I bought the tee shirt. I’m going to spend a portion of my day downloading those songs I didn’t get to hear last night.
Oh yeah, and Motley Crüe played last night too.
Funny how Welcome to My Nightmare started playing on my Pandora station as I opened this. Sounds like you had an awesome time. Love the final ‘oh and Motley Crue was there’. When was the last time Alice Cooper released new music?

Crüe was good, they still do the flying drum set too, only its ramped up a bit over the years. My Googlefu says Cooper released Welcome 2 My Nightmare in 2011.

Wow. I didn’t think it was that recent. Thanks.

I live in Phoenix and have met Alice at his restaurant here. He is very personable and gracious. Glad you had such a great time!

I’m so jealous right now. A little concerned about what he was serving, but jealous none the less.

Ha! Yes, I noticed the conspicuous omission of the Crue. Glad you had a good time. Alice Cooper rules.

Crüe was really good. They still do the flying drum set too.

My husband and son saw them last year when they were out with Kiss (or was that the year before??). Anyway, they told me there were steel workers protesting outside the show because they constructed the set for Tommy Lee and he never paid them.

I don’t doubt the protesters at all. I wonder if their story is true. I think you should protest that they went without you.

I believe them. Tommy Lee really doesn’t have the best ‘nice guy’ reputation.

“A working guillotine?” Say no more, say no more. 😉
Sounds cool. I didn’t know he was still making the rounds. Good for him. It ain’t over ’til it’s over.

Love Alice! I’ve always liked Motley Crew too, but I’m with you–Alice is who I’d go to see. Amazing that he still tours at 67 yrs. I’m green with envy (little Frankie humor).

Some of those people stay pretty energetic. Steven Tyler and Mick Jagger still rock too.

That tour is playing in my area soon I’m pretty sure. I was never really a Motley Crew fan but did like most of Alice Cooper’s stuff. The fifteen foot monster would be something to see!
Very weird too…..I’ve stopped getting email notifications when you make a blog post. I’m going to have to check my settings and see if something’s changed!

I notice that I lose touch with some people, then I get a follow notification from someone who has followed me for years. I think WordPress just gets wonky sometimes. No problem, but I’m glad to get you back.

I checked my settings. For some reason my reader settings were changed that I wasn’t receiving daily email notices. I’ve reset it so I should be good now. Don’t know what I did to mess things up, but I’m glad I realized what was going on and got it straightened out. I wouldn’t want to miss any of your posts!

Thanks. I’m glad you got it sorted too.

Glad you got to see Alice Cooper! My hubby’s story about his Alice Cooper concert: some idiot brought a tear gas canister into the concert venue (think 70s/80s) and set it off as the concert was starting. Needless to say, they evacuated everyone and cancelled the whole thing. Sounds like you had a blast!

I don’t know what some people think. How could that possibly be fun for anyone? We had people throwing half cups of beer over the crowd. I didn’t plan on being all sticky. I still had a wonderful time.

There just aren’t enough concerts with a working guillotine. If only more bands realised this.

There’s nothing like a fantastic concert to get us lit up on life again. 🙂

It worked in this case. I feel like I’m on the verge of something with my writing because of it too.

WOW! That’s SO cool! A guillotine and straight jacket, too? I want to see those pictures. I can see now why you were s excited about this one. My favorite AC album is Trash…I think I love every song on that one. What’s yours? Did you take lots of photos?
